Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 14, 2015 (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS) His Excellency Dr. Warren Everson Alarick Hull, has signaled his intent to “work collaboratively with all willing partners” to strengthen the pillars of security, integral development, democracy and human rights.

That pledge was made at a brief ceremony at the OAS Headquarters in Washington D.C. where Dr. Hull presented his credentials to OAS Secretary General His Excellency Luis Almagro on Thursday (August 13).

In his inaugural speech, Dr. Hull noted that it was an honour and privilege to represent the federation at such a high level.

“As the smallest independent nation in the Western Hemisphere, St. Kitts and Nevis understands well the critical importance of teamwork and cooperation in meeting mission objectives,” he stated.

Referring to the institution’s core principles which include the rule of international law, solidarity of members, elimination of extreme poverty, promotion of fundamental individual rights and many more, His Excellency Hull stressed that “St. Kitts and Nevis is deeply committed to these ideals.”

“We look forward to working closely with you and all member states to foster political dialogue, inclusiveness, regional solidarity and cooperation throughout the hemisphere,” he assured Secretary General Almagro. The new diplomat thanked the OAS head for highlighting the importance of economic development to the region and noted that this was particularly important to small and vulnerable states.

The ceremony was witnessed by Ambassadors from OAS member states and high ranking OAS officials including his predecessor Jacinth Henry-Martin, who now serves as Almagro’s Chief of Staff.

Dr. Hull was born in Nevis and is a graduate of the Charlestown Secondary School. He furthered his academic pursuits at Howard University earning a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland. Dr. Hull returned to Howard University and in 1977, became the institution’s first recipient of the Ph.D. award in Economics. Dr. Hull has an extensive background working in the public and private sector.
