BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – INFORMATION about the death of a man who perished while swimming at Banana Bay yesterday morning (Aug. 18), has been released by the police.

As explained in a police press release issued this afternoon (Aug. 19), the US resident went snorkeling with two other individuals when he disappeared from their sight.

“Initial investigations revealed that 50-year-old Jeffery Stehle of Texas, USA, who was staying in the Federation at Half Moon Bay, along with two other males namely, Zackh Slaon his son-in-law of Texas, USA, but living at Monkey Hill, and Ross Tiecan, also of USA, but living at Half Moon Bay, went snorkeling sometime after 10:00 am.

“When the three men were about 150 feet away from the shore, they noted that Jeffery Stehle was not in sight. The other two men searched for Jeffery for about 20 minutes in the water, and when they exited the water they found Jeffery lying on the shore unconscious. Efforts were made to revive him, but they were unsuccessful.”

Emergency personnel were summoned to the scene including police officers of the Basseterre and Frigate Bay Police Stations and the Forensic Services Unit.

Stehle was pronounced dead on the scene by the District Medical Officer.
