By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – 4:30 p.m. (Aug. 23) - THE Tropical Storm Watch which was set in place for the Federation has been upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning.

The Federation is among four countries including Antigua and Barbuda for which a warning has been set in place.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Meteorological Officer has advised that as at 2:00 p.m. today, the system, which has been downgraded to a tropical storm, was located 279 miles to the east-south-east of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Danny is moving toward the west near 15 mph and a westward to west-northwestward motion is expected over the next 48 hours.  On the forecast track, the center will move near or over portions of the Leeward Islands late tonight or early Monday.”

(Aug. 22) - AS Hurricane Danny continues to weaken, the Federation has been placed under a Tropical Storm Watch and residents are still being advised to monitor the progress of the storm.

Sometime yesterday (Aug. 21), the system strengthened into a Category Three hurricane but has since been downgraded to a Category One.

SKNVibes understands that earlier today, a Tropical Storm Watch was triggered for Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, Montserrat, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten.

According to information released by the St. Kitts Meteorological Office, as at 5:00 p.m. today (Aug. 22), the weather system was located at about 550 miles to the east-south-east of St. Kitts. It carries wind speeds of 75 miles per hour with higher gusts and is travelling in a west-north-westerly direction at 14 miles per hour.

Should it continue along this path, it would pass slightly to the north of the Federation sometime on Monday (Aug. 24). The Met Office advises that by Monday evening, the storm should have advanced past St. Kitts and Nevis.

It further advised that there is no certainty about if or how much rain the storm would dump on the Federation but Danny could bring on average two to four inches of rain.

All are asked to keenly monitor the progress of the storm and pay attention to updates from the St. Kitts Meteorological Officer, the National Emergency Management Agency and the local media.

Although it is expected to pass the Federation while at tropical storm strength, persons are asked to take the necessary precautions.
