By: SPBS, Press Release

Stage set for  SPBS5th Annual Awards Gala in New York"

SPBS, August 25th, 2015 -- Sandy Point Benevolent Society (SPBS) is at it again! In a few days, that is, on Saturday, 5 September, 2015 during the annual US Labor Day weekend festivities, the SPBS, a Sandy Point High School/CEMSS alumni association will host its Fifth Annual Benefit Gala in New York City. From all reports, the impressive Maestro’s Banquet Hall, 1703 Bronxdale Avenue, Bronx, NY will reverberate with energy and enjoyment from 8pm to 2am on that day, as scores of nationals from the twin island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis resident at home and abroad are expected to attend this GALA affair.

With Brimstone Hill National Park Fortress and Harowe Servo Control as the premier sponsors for the 2015 benefit gala, the event bears the theme, “Stimulating our youth – Enhancing their Future” and would see several accomplished citizens of the Federation of St. Kitts- Nevis taking the spotlight. The banquet will be held under the distinguished patronage of Her Excellency Ms. Constance Viola Mitcham, Esq., Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and a Special Adviser to the Prime Minister. Many would remember Ms. Mitcham as the first woman elected to the Parliament of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Delivering the featured presentation would be St. Kitts- born Mr. Lerone Joseph who currently serves as area Director for University Housing and Student Life at the Auburn University in Alabama.  Mr. Joseph, a Sandy Pointer, was the 2000 SPBS Principal’s award winner. Other notable dignitaries in attendance include His Excellency Mr. Sam Terrance Condor, Ambassador to the United Nations in New York.

Also sharing the spotlight will be local calypsonian Richie Buntin who will sing the Federation’s National Anthem, and the distinguished honorees that are household names in the federation and the diaspora. The honorees are the civic organization Brimstone Hill National Fortress Society, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ian Queeley, distinguished Engineer/Scientist at Procter & Gamble, Sandy Pointer, Mr. Alrick Warner and the well revered Pastor Clive Saunders.

An aspect of this year’s banquet that has generated much interest is the announcement of the winner of the SPBS scholarship recipient who was a past Principal’s Award winner. This will be the 3rd year we will be given scholarships to past students of SPHS/CEMSS attending University and the first time we will be giving three scholarships (One Graduate and two Undergraduate).

A spokesman for the organization said that its members are on a mission to ensure a sold-out event of at least 300 guests. The $95.00 cost per ticket will allow attendees an all-night open bar, a sumptuous buffet dinner with a wide array of dishes, free entry in door prize drawings, trinkets customized with the national colors of St. Kitts and Nevis and a complimentary souvenir magazine printed in celebration of 2015 Gala Event. Get you tickets now and not pay the $100 door price.

DJ Rabuka of 3’s HiFi out of SKB will provide the musical accompaniment for the evening and will keep attendees rocking especially for the dance that follows the presentation of awards. Patrons will also have an opportunity to participate in the Annual Raffle which offers a grand prize of a Cruise for Two, a second prize of an iPad mini, and a third prize of a GoPro® camera.  There will also be 5 prizes of $100 each, but you have to be in attendance at the banquet to win one of these $100 prizes. There are still a few tickets for the banquet available so persons interested in being a part of this sterling event are urged to check the SPBS website www.spbsinc.org or contact any of the SPBS officers, without delay.

Undoubtedly, this Awards Banquet promises to be a reunion of sorts- an evening of celebrating excellence, connecting and reconnecting, with friends, classmates, schoolmates, teachers and nationals and friends of the Federation. Lots of Caribbean food, drinks, fun, laughter, music, dancing, and celebration will make the night one to remember. Past patrons of this SPBS Annual Awards Banquet have affirmed that it is the place on the US Labor Day weekend.
