Eight receive National Awards at Investiture Ceremony

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EIGHT individuals who were named national honourees in 2013 and 2014 were bestowed their awards during a National Investiture Ceremony held at Government House this morning (Aug. 25).

     

    The awards were distributed to the honourees in the presence of the Acting Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Tapley Seaton QC; Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris; Minister of Foreign Affairs the Hon. Mark Brantley; and their loved ones as well as their supporters.

    The late Rt. Excellent Sir Simeon Daniel of Nevis, who was named St. Kitts and Nevis’s National Hero in 2013, was presented with the award today, which was accepted by his wife Lady Sheila Daniel.

    She accepted the Order of National Hero award for the role her husband played in Politics and Law within the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis.

    Receiving Palace Honours (Member of the British Empire) were Silvia Viola Manning for her work in Public Health and Lorna I. Richards for her work in Public Service. SKNVibes understands they were named recipients of the award since 2014.

    Five of the eight were issued local awards, having also been named as honourees since 2014.

    Dr. Milton Whittaker, for his work in the fields of Science and Education, was presented with the Star of Merit (CSM) award; Leonie James, for her work in the areas of Pre-school and Community Service, was bestowed the CSM award, as was Clement ‘Bouncin’ Williams for his role in the Advancement of Science, Education and Culture in the Federation.

    Mrs. Vynetta Henry, known for work in the areas of Nursing and Community Service, was presented with a Medal of Honour (MH). The award was accepted by her daughter Carlene Henry-Morton on her behalf.

    The awards were presented by His Excellency Seaton and the awardees were thanked by Prime Minister Harris, who recalled some of the points of interest in their various careers and the strides they made in advancing all aspects of the St. Kitts and Nevis community.
