Visit to Taiwan Very Fruitful Says PM Harris

Prime Mister Harris and President Ma had fruitful discussions

    Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 26, 2015 (SKNIS):  St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris has hailed his recent official visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan) as very fruitful.  

     

    The one week visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan) was wholly funded by the host country and was the Prime Minister’s first visit to Taiwan since taking office in February.  
     
    While in Taiwan Prime Minister Harris held meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. David Y. L. Lin and Taiwanese President, His Excellency Ma Ying-jeou.  Prime Minister Harris stated, that his discussions were focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and St. Kitts and Nevis. 
     
    “We have identified new areas of future cooperation in healthcare and security and will continue to build on our cooperation in agriculture, tourism, alternative energy, public infrastructure, education and e-government. The details will be worked out in coming months,” said Prime Minister Harris. “Taiwan has been a valued partner to St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Kitts and Nevis has been a strong ally of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on the international stage, and this will continue.”  
     
    While in Taiwan, Prime Minister Harris also visited several entities including the St. Kitts and Nevis Embassy in Taiwan and held audience with citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis resident in Taiwan.  Prime Minister Harris also visited health facilities, universities and several other places of historical and cultural interest. 
     
    St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan) have been diplomatic allies since 1983.
