BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE two visiting Jamaicans who were taken into police custody over the weekend to assist with investigations into the theft of an electronic device, were charged, taken before the court and convicted.

This was confirmed yesterday (Aug. 31) by Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Ian Queeley.

He informed that the two men, Garnett Rohan Kennedy and Karl Antonio Larmond, appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court on that day, which was presided over by His Honour Reynold Benjamin.

The duo pleaded guilty to stealing a laptop from the St. Kitts Marriott over the weekend and were ordered to pay a sum of money as punishment.

ACP Queeley informed that they were fined EC$5,700 each, $3,000 of which is to be paid to the State and the remaining $2,700 to be paid as compensation to the virtual complainant.

If the men fail to pay the sum, they would be required to serve a prison sentence of 18 months at Her Majesty’s Prison.

ACP Queeley confirmed that the men were part of the entourage of a number of female dancehall artistes who visited St. Kitts to perform at the Nice Girls show which was held at Warner Park on Saturday evening (Aug. 28).

Just about one month ago, Bounty Killa’s brother Mark Price, who had accompanied him to the island for his performance at the St. Kitts Music Festival, was charged with stealing a cell phone while at Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport. He was preparing to leave the island when the act was committed.

He appeared before the court where he pleaded guilty and was handed an EC$6,000 fine, half of which was to be paid to the State and the other half was to be paid to the virtual complainant in the case.
