BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A dinner, held under the patronage of the Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) last evening (Sept. 2) at the Nirvana Restaurant in Boyd’s Village, saw a number of Government officials and special invitees extending a warm welcome to a 16-member delegation of International Youth Ambassadors from that East Asian country to the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

A very brief ceremony preceded the dinner in which Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris and his Deputy, the Hon. Shawn Richards, joined in welcoming the ambassadors to the Federation.

“This is very good for development. We have enjoyed a 32-year relationship with Taiwan. We are experiencing an evolution of diplomacy from government to government relations to people to people interface,” said Dr. Harris.

The ambassadors are on tour to share Taiwan’s culture with the rest of the world and they are slated to host a show tomorrow evening (Sept. 4) at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank in the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium.

“They are here essentially to share of the Taiwanese culture. They will be doing performances on St. Kitts as well as on Nevis. We are happy to welcome them and this is also their first stop of the tour,” explained Richards.

Following presentations, the invitees participated in what could be termed an interactive dinner in which the seating arrangements were infused with local and Taiwanese representation at each table.

The 16-member Taiwanese Cultural Youth Ambassadors are currently on a three-week tour, during which time they will visit St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Houston, Texas.
