By: Amanda Payne, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IT was a battle of the giants on Thursday night (Sept. 3) at Basketball City, as Ram’s Hitters took down Kittitian Hill St. Paul’s Tough Knots in game two in the Finals of the St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association 2014/2015 Play-offs.

Following their loss in the first of the best-of-five Finals, Hitters players returned to the court with fire in their eyes, while their opponents, determined to outclass them for a second time, went with strong defensive and offensive runs.

The game got off to a slow start and by the end of the first quarter, with the score at 14-13 in favour of Tough Knots, the writing was on the wall for an epic encounter.

A series of rebounds by Nashorn Maynard were capitalised by Kariss Douglas which aided Tough Knots securing a 12-point lead (21-33) by the end of the second quarter.

“Y’all not defending…they killing us cause y’all not defending. Stop the bleeding,” exclaimed one of Hitters player to his teammates.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Hitters went back on the court in a very offensive mood.

The synchronisation of the Hitters players in that quarter resulted in them taking the lead, as Marlon Powell’s superb and relentless defensive tactics produced four steals that proved useful for Aquin Robinson to complete the plays, thus giving their team a two-point (47-45) advantage to go into the final quarter of the game.

The deciding quarter had fans on the edge of their seats as it began in a seesaw manner with both teams fighting to gain the upper hand.

However, Hitters managed to score two consecutive two-pointers which led to the widening of the margin. At the end of the encounter, Hitters emerged victorious with the score at 76-67.

The top scorer in the game was Ram’s Hitters Aquin Robinson with 18 points while Kariss Douglas chalked up 14 points for the Kittitian Hill St. Paul’s Tough Knots.

Patrons also saw some outstanding performances from Marlon Powell, who greatly contributed to Tough Knot’s defeat, with one rebound, four steals and seven blocks; and Tough Knots’ Nashorn Maynard, who was instrumental in his team’s early lead with 11 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and seven blocks.

Game three, which is expected to be another thriller, is scheduled for tomorrow (Sept 6) at the same venue.
