Irishtown Primary School students receive school supplies

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TO assist them in capitalizing on the educational opportunities that are being afforded them, 30 Third-Grade students of the Irishtown Primary School were yesterday (Sept. 10) presented  with a set of school supplies donated by community group called The Concerned Citizens For A Better McKnight.

The packages took the form of backpacks which were filled with educational tools including pencils, pens, exercise books, pencil cases, crayons, erasers, glue sticks, dictionaries and calculators.

Standing before the bright-eyed children and teachers of the institution, popular taxi operator Ian ‘Youth Man’ Nisbett presented the packages to the children who appeared eager to receive them.

Prior to the handing out of the packages, representative of the group Ken Martin indicated that the group felt it necessary to make the donation as it would greatly assist parents with school-related expenses.

He encouraged the students to persevere, take their education seriously and do their best to strive for excellence.

The Concerned Citizens For A Better McKnight consists of former McKnight residents residing overseas: Seymour ‘Tally’ Davis, Lloyd Hendricks, Hildred Rawlins who pooled their resources and solicited assistance from several individuals including other members of the McKnight community.

The Group has expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education; the Ministry of Finance, particularly Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department for the granting of duty-free concessions, Bernard ‘BT’ Rawlins, Wilson Paulius and former McKnight residents who are residing overseas for their contribution to the effort.

During the brief ceremony, one minute of silence was observed in memory of the late Ernest ‘Grey Patch’ Hendricks, brother of Lloyd Hendricks.

Yesterday’s handing-over ceremony is the fifth that the Concerned Citizens For A Better McKnight has undertaken in as many years.
