The pistol found in McKnight

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE men were today (Sept. 28) taken into custody to assist police with their investigation into the find of an unlicenced firearm and a quantity of ammunition in the McKnight area.

According to a police communiqué, the three men are Enslie Lewis, Lewis Powell and Peet Douglas.

The communiqué stated that in keeping with the Police’s Six-Point Plan of Action, this morning members of the Special Services Unit, Anti-Narcotics Unit, Criminal Investigation Department and the Forensic Services Unit had executed a number of search warrants in the McKnight area.

It noted that the searches resulted in the discovery and confiscation of one Taurus .40 handgun and 10 matching rounds of ammunition, and that the three men were taken into custody to assist the police in relation to the find.

Additionally, a search on Shaw Avenue resulted in the find of a quantity of marijuana and one Tajal Heyliger was taken into custody.

Searches were also done at abandoned properties on Upper Fiennes Avenue and Upper Shaw Avenue, but nothing of an illegal nature was found.

The communiqué also stated that ACP Queeley echoed that “we urge anyone with information that can assist the police in our fight against crime to call any Police Station in the Federation or Crime Stoppers, our confidential hotline at 1-800-8477 to share information”, adding that the information is critical to keeping St. Kitts and Nevis safe.

To ascertain the amount of firearms removed from the streets of the Federation for this year, SKNVibes made a telephone call to the Police Public Relations Office and requested to speak to the PRO.

The respondent said he was the PRO but this writer had doubts because the voice was not that of Inspector Lyndon David. Therefore, this writer gave his name, designation, the media house he represents and requested the name of the respondent.

In response, he said, “There is a transition and my name is Grell.”

Grell was then asked of the amount of firearms recovered but could not provide same. He however transferred the call to ACP Queeley’s office, but his secretary said he was not there.

This writer asked if ACP Vaughan Henderson was available but had gotten the same answer. A call was subsequently made to the Commissioner’s office and this writer was told that he was at a meeting.

At press time, another call was made to the Commissioner but it went unanswered.

SKNVibes has therefore decided, according to its record, to publish that 13 firearms have been taken off the streets for the year.
