Ready, Set, Walk and Support the Fight Against Cancer

By: CIBC FirstCaribbean, Press Release

CIBC FirstCaribbean Provides Tangible Support to Regional Cancer Organizations

Basseterre, 30 September, 2015 -- It’s that time of the year again when CIBC FirstCaribbean shows tangible support for regional cancer organizations in the fight against cancer.

On Sunday, October 4th 2015 at 5:45 p.m. hundreds of people will join staff and friends of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank in a Walk to benefit local cancer organizations.

The Walk for the Cure is now in its fourth year, and is one of CIBC FirstCaribbean’s premiere regional community engagement and outreach initiatives which benefits cancer organizations throughout the region. It will unite over 10,000 passionate participants in 17 countries in which the bank operates, in a unified demonstration of their commitment to assist those affected by cancer.

Locally, CIBC FirstCaribbean will be partnering with the Reach for Recovery Breast Cancer Support Group, The St. Kitts and Nevis Breast Cancer Patients Assistance Fund, Hash House Harriers, and the Rotary Club of St. Kitts for this year’s walk.

Sponsors for this year’s Walk presented their contributions at a brief ceremony at the Basseterre branch of CIBC FirstCaribbean on September 30th 2015. Mrs. G. Diane Francis, Manager Retail Banking and Operations/Country Lead, St Kitts and Nevis expressed thanks to all sponsors for their contribution and commented that such contributions enabled the bank to continue its support for the fight against cancer.

In the first three years, the event raised approximately US$330,000 to support critical cancer care, purchase vital equipment to treat patients and host general education programmes to create greater awareness of the disease across the region.

Regional fundraising efforts this year have raised over USD$300,000 so far from generous corporate sponsors and an array of staff fundraising events.

Co-Chairs for this year’s walk, CIBC FirstCaribbean Executives, Trevor Torzsas and Mark St. Hill, praised the fund-raising efforts of the bank’s staff and the enthusiastic support of the business community who have been coming on board as sponsors.

The Walk is also held to coincide with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s CIBC Run for the Cure sponsored by the bank’s parent company, CIBC. CIBC has been supporting this event for more than 20 years, donating millions to breast cancer research in Canada.

Other cancer month activities in October include a joint walk with Hash House Harriers on October 10th at 4:00 p.m. This special Pink Dress Hash will begin at the Independence Square. All particpants are asked to wear a Pink Dress in support of Breast Cancer.
