Police investigating smuggled drugs into St. Kitts

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - POLICE have confirmed that they are investigating an incident in which drugs were smuggled into St. Kitts, and this publication understands that an individual might have been shot and killed during the process.

Information reaching SKNVibes suggests that during the wee hours today (Oct. 1), a vessel arrived in St. Kitts waters reportedly from Antigua.

It allegedly contained a quantity of an illegal substance and SKNVibes understands that the local authorities conducted somewhat of a sting operation and were able to seize the vessel, its occupants and the contents on board.

Unconfirmed information reaching this media house suggests that one of the occupants of the vessel was shot and killed during the operation.

Contacted by this publication, Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd said all he was prepared to confirm is that the police are investigating a matter surrounding the illegal entry of drugs into the country, adding that a press release would be issued shortly.

He also confirmed that the vessel had entered St. Kitts' waters via the Atlantic Ocean in the area of Conaree or Keys.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing and the pending police press release is expected to shed some light on the situation.
