Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 01, 2015 (SKNIS): Support for crime fighting and climate change adaptation was among several topics addressed by Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, and other Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads, during a meeting with the Right Honourable David Cameron, Prime Minister of Great Britain. The September 28 meeting was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, U.S.A.
Other topics of discussion between the British Prime Minister and CARICOM Heads included the support for education and training, the support for disaster mitigation efforts, disaster recovery and reparations.
Prime Minister Harris described the UK’s renewed interest in the Caribbean as one of contentment.
“CARICOM’s leadership was happy with the renewed interest in the region, showed by Prime Minister Cameron,” Prime Minister Harris said.
Dr. Harris pointed out that Prime Minister Cameron was reminded about the diminishing level of tangible support received from the UK in areas such as training and scholarships that are urgently needed to build resource capacity in the Federation.
The meeting was hailed as fruitful, as Prime Minister Cameron showed great sensitivity in his dialogue with the delegates.
Also in attendance at this high level meeting was Dr. the Honourable Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Honourable Freundel Stuart, Prime Minister of Barbados, as well as Heads of delegations from Jamaica and Belize.
