New York, USA, October 1 - St. Kitts and Nevis Foreign Minister Mark Brantley continues to lead delegations in critical meetings at the UN General Assembly in New York in efforts to strengthen relations with friendly countries and pursue the Federation’s development agenda.
Brantley, assisted by Samuel Berridge, Counselor in the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations, attended the 2nd CARICOM-India Ministerial Meeting on September 30. The Indian delegation was led by its Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj. Parties discussed closer integration and cooperation between India and the Caribbean region in areas such as ICT, climate change, financing for overseas development, and capacity building.
Minister Brantley also had the opportunity to attend the historic launch of the SIDSDOCK, an initiative envisioned to assist Small Island Developing States transform their national energy sectors into a catalyst for sustainable economic development and help generate financial resources to address adaptation to climate change.“SIDSDOCK, operating under the slogan ‘Island Energy for Island Life’, is a significant development led by the Caribbean region as this now becomes an international intergovernmental organization to address the peculiar needs of small island developing states, climate change and the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency,”
Brantley noted, pointing out that St. Kitts and Nevis continues to provide a regional model for renewable energy development including wind, waste to energy, solar and geothermal.?
St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Hon. Ralph Gonsalves chaired the meeting in the absence of the PM of Dominica the Hon. Roosevelt Skerritt.
All parties expressed their deep concern to the government and people of Dominica for loss of life and property caused by Tropical Storm Erica late August.
