BVI, October 6th, 2015 -- Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands, October 6, 2015 - After months of planning and preparations, the B.V.I Sportfishing Association (BVISFA) is ready to launch with a bang!

The B.V.I Sportfishing Association was founded in 2014 by some sport fishing enthusiasts who decided to band together to form a unified voice to speak out on behalf of their interests in the sport. The BVISFA was registered later that year as a non-profit organisation.

The association’s aim is “to develop and promote sport fishing in the BVI while adhering to federal and local regulations, to encourage compliance with rules of water safety by association members and the general public, and to promote opportunities for youth to engage in the art of sport fishing and other fishing activities, while protecting ocean resources within the BVI”. The BVISFA collaborates with several businesses, agencies and other stakeholders including the Department of Conservation and Fisheries.

Chad Emmanuel, President of the Association had these words to share, “Sport fishing is an up and coming industry and pastime around the world and also in the British Virgin Islands. This association will not only bring awareness to the community, but will assist in fostering other activities for the youth and general population to take part in. Our aim is to ensure that there are annual competitions to keep the sport alive.”

To celebrate this momentous achievement, the BVISFA is hosting an Official Launch Party and Shootout Tournament at Fischer’s Cove, Virgin Gorda from October 17 – 18, 2015. Tournament registration takes place on Saturday, October 17 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm, immediately followed by the Captain’s Briefing. The registration fee is $400 per boat.  On Sunday, October 18th at 6:00 am the tournament will commence.  The fishermen are expected back at Fischer’s Cove by 3:00 pm for the weigh in which ends at 3:30 pm.  This will be followed by the prize giving ceremony and launch party. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Association and all are invited to the festivities on the beach at Fischer’s Cove.
