Basseterre- 16 October 2015 - The annual tradition, Chambalay festivity, which is a spinoff of Guy Fawks, is slated to run from Thursday 05th November to Sunday 08th November, 2015. Its tag for the 6th year is “The Ever Living Flame”, a theme that denotes the injection of pride into the community.
Innovative ideas were generated and will become a part of the festivity this year.
Speaking to PRO, Treasa Wyatt, she disclosed that one of the major event surrounding this weekend is “Sandy Point Olympics” formerly known as “Kart Part Olympics”, will be moved to a different location. The PRO also indicated that the change in venue will bring a fresh ambiance to the event and it will also create a sense of inclusion.
“The re-conceptualization of the Kart Part Olympics has been brought about mainly through feedback that was gathered from the community. There are other areas in Sandy Point that is just as suitable for hosting the event and also, the new executive body of the parent group SPIRIT has made a commitment to increase its visibility in the community. This too is another step towards exercising inclusiveness and unity within the community.”
The main tacts/highlights for this mini festival are Chambalay and Olympics day. These events encompasses activities such as music by the Iron Band, trotting through the streets of Sandy Point with lighted papaya stems, games, give-a-ways and much more.
We are inviting the community and the private sector to come on board, by means of meaningful partnerships and sponsorships. This is one of the most observed weekend in the town of Sandy Point as it sets to create community togetherness, community building and rejuvenation of our traditions and history.
The organizers of this spectacular event is eager to present the official line-up to the general public. Continue to follow and stay update with the happenings of the upcoming Chambalay weekend.
