BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Thursday, 22nd October, 2015): Friday shoppers and Central Basseterre commuters will be in for a surprise come Friday 30th October for the inaugural Essence of Hope Men in Heelz Celebrity Dash that will feature some of the Federation’s most prominent businessmen, well-known radio hosts and other popular personalities.
Participants will be swapping their masculine footwear for a pair of stylish stilettos-no less than 2 inches- in an effort to raise awareness and contribute financial support towards the Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
This playful charitable event is slated to start at 4:30 pm at The Circus as these men will ‘run a while in her shoes’ in a high-energy sprint along Bank Street.
But Men in Heelz Celebrity Dash is much more than a simple fundraiser, says Chief Executive Officer Pamela Armstrong. “Can you imagine hairy legs in the finest female footwear positioned in racing stance poised to take on the streets of Basseterre? Well if you can’t, the inaugural Men in Heelz Celebrity Dash is sure to give your imagination a jolt!”
The event, which will be first of its kind in the twin-island nation, is aimed at getting more men involved in the dialogue about breast cancer as it affects the women in their lives. Although statistics have shown that a small percentage of men are affected by the disease, these men will ‘put themselves in her shoes’ as a way of showing support in the fight against the disease which affects so many women from all walks of life around the world, inlcluding St.Kitts-Nevis.
“We can’t wait to see the men running in their heels,” says Armstrong. “It’s going to be a fun way to bring more awareness to this very serious disease plaguing the women of our Federation.” As part of a month of activities organized by the Foundation, the event is slated to become an annual fun fundraiser, and it is already creating quite a buzz on social media.
“We’re hoping we create such a buzz this year that next year we’ll have more men than we can count signing up to join the race. We’d also love to have more businesses on board in the form of athlete and title sponsors; we really see the event growing and being a staple in the years to come,” Armstrong added in speaking about the vision of the event.
Men interested in participating in the dash event are asked to contact Juella Gumbs at 762-3018.
Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization, organized exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes as related to breast cancer.
