Basseterre, St. Kitts, Thursday 5th November, 2015 -- “Be You, Feel Free, Xpress Yourselves!” Yes, come next Thursday 12th November, the stage at MaPau comes alive with another night of spoken word poetry and other performing arts at the highly anticipated Island Xpressions show. Since the show was started in 2009 by Mr. Samal Duggins, the number of performers each night has doubled, while the number of fans has more than tripled.
Island Xpressions has evolved over the years to include all areas of the arts, allowing more persons to live out the show’s theme, “Be You, Feel Free, Xpress Yourselves!” Whether through spoken word, song, dance or visual arts, the stage at Island Xpressions is one that promotes individuality, creativity and inclusion. Whether it was the thought-provoking pieces by Jihan Williams, the artistic dance numbers by Desi Brown or the sultry voice of her sibling Khyla Brown, Island Xpressions is always a memorable event enjoyed by scores of arts enthusiasts and lovers.
Those in attendance at next week’s show can expect to see many veteran performers, as well as the new upcoming poets who will be taking part in the 2015 Project P.O.E.T.R.Y National High School Spoken Word Poetry Competition. The participants in this year’s competition will be present to witness the diverse delivery styles & build their confidence as they prepare for their night on Saturday 28th November, 2015.
The Island Xpressions team invites everyone to come out to next week’s show since in the words of Duggins, “after a short hiatus, Island Xpressions is back and we have a very impressive lineup for everyone on November 12th. We expect those in attendance to be left wanting more and so they are invited to come out on Saturday 28th November to the Project P.O.E.T.R.Y National High School Spoken Word Poetry Competition.”
