BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A passenger bus was centimeters away from toppling into the Caribbean Sea at Old Road Bay after being involved in a traffic accident with a motor jeep this morning (Nov. 17).
The incident took place sometime between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and had involved motor jeep PA5997 which was driven by a Huggins of New Guinea and motor omnibus H6511 owned and driven by Kervin Hendrickson.
SKNVibes understands that H6511, which was carrying five passengers including a child, was travelling towards Sandy Point’s direction while PA5997, which was travelling in the opposite direction, was attempting to overtake another vehicle when the incident occurred.
This publication further understands that Hendrickson, recognising that Huggins was in his path, attempted to avoid a collision by decelerating and veering further left, away from the oncoming vehicle.
The attempt resulted in the avoidance of a head-on collision but yet they collided and the sides of both vehicles were damaged.
Following the incident, the front and rear left wheels of H6511 were precariously perched on the edge of a wall on the road facing the Caribbean Sea while PA5997 was on the grass on the opposite side of the road.
Information which this media house gleaned indicates that following the incident, a female passenger on the bus was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital via a private vehicle. However, her condition is not known to this publication.
Officers of the Old Road Police Station were summoned to the scene and conducted investigations into the incident.
