Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 19, 2015 (RSCNPF): The seizure of 517 lbs of Marijuana on Friday (November 13) in Nevis highlights the ongoing efforts of the units within the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force engaged in the fight against drug related crime.
According to the Head of the Anti-Narcotic Unit, "the unit has seized 830lbs of Marijuana to date this year, with an estimated street value of ECC 11.265 million dollars. In addition, the unit has seized 8.5 lbs of Cocaine with an estimated street value of ECC 347,490 dollars.
Commenting on the results of the ongoing counter drug efforts, he said:
"The success of our efforts is the result of a collaboration of resources with a number of key stakeholders to include departments within and outside of the police service. These partners, including the evidence provided by members of the public are critical in ensuring our success in reducing crime. We are grateful for the support of our partners, the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force, the Coast Guard and Her Majesty's Customs and Excise Department."
The Head went on to highlight that the mission of the unit is ongoing, and said:
"So far for this year, the unit's plant eradication operations has resulted in the uprooting of 193,500 plants".He added “the estimated value for the processed product from those plants was in the area of ECC 58 million dollars.”
ACP Queeley, the Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, said:
“The recent success is a clear indication that the strategies implemented in the 'Six Point Plan' are bearing fruit. Intelligence Led Policing, Targeted Operations and Collaborative Strategies have all been key elements of these successful operations.”
He further stated: "We hope that the recent success of the Force will have a multiplying effect and instill confidence in policing in our communities as the public see our visible commitment towards eradicating drug related crime.”
"I want to encourage our teams, the Anti-Narcotic Unit, the SSU, the Nevis Task Force and all the others who contribute to these successful operations to remain steadfast, focused and mission centered. Your fellow officers require it of you and our nation will benefit and reap the rewards of your efforts" added ACP Queeley.
ACP Queeley reiterated that citizens play a role in crime fighting and urged them to report any criminal activity, “we urge anyone with information that can assist the police in our fight against crime, to call any Police Station in the Federation or Crime Stoppers, our confidential hotline at 1-800-8477 to share information,” the information is critical to keeping St. Kitts and Nevis a safe place, he stressed.
