November 29, 2015 -- Prime Minister Harris proceeds to Paris where he will lead a delegation to participate in the upcoming International Climate Change Conference (COP21) after the successful 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Malta.
In characterising his inaugural CHOGM meeting as Prime Minister, Dr Harris said, "it was my singular honour and delight to represent the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis within this international family of nations bound together by shared values and principles and a common ambition to create platforms that advance the legitimate hopes and aspirations of our peoples”.
During the four-day high-level consultation, Prime Minister Harris engaged with several of his colleague Heads from African and Pacific nations as part of his commitment to build new bridges. "I also believe that we must work to create new linkages between St. Kitts and Nevis and small island pacific states and countries in Africa”, said the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Harris also attended a private lunch hosted by Her Majesty The Queen for newly elected Commonwealth Prime Ministers. He was invited to attend the launch of His Royal High the Prince of Wales - The Prince's Trust Fund which supports marginalised youth. Through this Fund, small countries like St. Kitts and Nevis can benefit from activities such as skills enhancement and job attachments.
In the closing ceremony, Prime Minister Harris took the floor to congratulate Malta as host. He also thanked the outgoing Secretary General for his support during the challenging period in St. Kitts and Nevis in the period 2013-2015. He stressed that "St. Kitts and Nevis is a country of law and order and fully subscribes to the enduring values and principles of the Commonwealth.”
He also commended and expressed confidence in the incoming Secretary General and stressed that "St. Kitts and Nevis believes she will deliver on the expectations of the peoples of the Commonwealth.”
Prime Minister Harris was accompanied by Foreign Minister, the Honourable Mark Brantley; Minister of Public Infrastructure, the Honourable Ian Liburd and; High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland His Excellency Dr Kevin M. Isaac.
