King Street shooting victim identified

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE young man shot and killed last night (Nov. 29) on King Street in Basseterre was identified as 20-year-old Curstein 'Ekco' Carey.

     

    According to reports, at about 10:00 last night, Carey was shot multiple times while riding a bicycle along King Street, a thoroughfare situated less than 100 metres east of the Basseterre Police Station.

    When this publication arrived at the scene, a crowd was seen at Baker’s Corner on the opposite side of the road upon which Carey’s body rested and investigations were already underway by members of the Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Technicians.

    The District Medical Officer, Dr. Mervin Laws, was summoned to the scene and pronounced him dead.

    SKNVibes was reliably informed that Carey hailed from Nevis, but at the time of his demise he was residing in Newtown.

    The police are therefore seeking the public’s assistance and requested that anyone who has information leading to the apprehension and subsequent conviction of the perpetrator(s) to contact the nearest police station or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS).

    Curstein 'Ekco' Carey’s death has taken to 27 the total amount of homicides committed in the twin-island Federation for the year; 10 on Nevis and 17 on St. Kitts.
