(EMU) – St. Kitts, January, 21, 2016 -- The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has joined forces with the Ministry of Education as it seeks to reinforce its mantra that “Consumer Business is Everybody’s Business.
Schools across St. Kitts are vying for the title of Consumer Affairs Primary School Champions when they participate in a quiz competition which will begin on January 25th ending on March 15th during the week of activities for World Consumer Rights day.
Coordinator for the Quiz Competition, Mr Vincent Fough said the Consumer Affairs Department is on an awareness drive in which they felt it would be most advantageous to use children in grades five and six who would be at a critical stage in their lives, where their understanding of their rights and responsibilities can shape whether or not they will be wise and successful consumers.
“The younger the better”, said Mr. Fough as he highlighted the importance of students getting a grasp of purchasing wisely and knowing the pitfalls so as to avoid fraud, scams and other unfair and deceptive practices.
Spokesperson on the Committee, Ms. Trista Wattley said students are preparing in advance of the competition by reviewing a wide cross–section of Consumer Affairs issues available on the Internet which were provided by the department.
Consumer Affairs Week will run from March 13-18, 2016.
