BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONE individual was killed and two others wounded during an early afternoon shooting that took place today (Jan. 24) in the Basseterre area.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force informed that an armed assailant(s) performed the act at about 1:15 p.m. at Upper Thibou Avenue.
SKNVibes understands that the three victims were transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where one succumbed to his injuries.
Unconfirmed reports reaching this publication suggest that a group of individuals were in the area when the assailant(s) approached and indiscriminately opened fire in their direction.
Further unconfirmed reports suggest that a child may have been injured during the process.
“The Police have reported that Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit and the Criminal Investigations Department and technicians from the Forensics Services Unit have canvassed the scene for evidence. The investigation is ongoing,” a police communiqué on the incident disclosed.
The release however did not indicate the name of the deceased or any information relative to him.
It however quotes Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd as pleading with the public to assist the police with their investigation.
“We urge anyone who may have seen any unusual activity in the area that could be benefit to this investigation to contact the Police, your information can be critical to this investigation. Persons with information that can assist the police in this crime, or any other crime can call any Police Station in the federation or Crime Stoppers, our confidential hotline, at 1-800-8477 to share information.”
