Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 29, 2016 (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris said the job as leader of the twin-island Federation is “challenging” but added that his prior experience as a senior minister of government, and the support of his current Cabinet colleagues has prepared him to meet the complexities of the post.

“The role really is a challenging one and always will be because you are dealing with expectations of people and those expectations change so rapidly,” Prime Minister Harris said on this week’s edition of the Government’s radio and television show ‘Working for You.’ “The recipe for success is not as simple as if you are running a business and it is the profit motive. There are so many issues impacting upon the development agenda and the Government has to, and the leader in particular has to, be knowledgeable and nimble enough to be able to respond to them in such a way that advances the future possibilities for the country.”

Prime Minister Harris credited the members of the Government of National Unity for the “sterling support” over the past 11 months. He singled out the Deputy Prime Minister, Honourable Shawn Richards and Senior Minister, Honourable Vance Amory, for their valuable contributions and sound advice.

Dr. Harris said the Cabinet functions as a good team and pointed out areas where he has used his experience to enhance the public service.

“I work extremely hard and I try to bring to bear all my knowledge, having participated in an administration before now, having participated in leadership at the ministerial level across a broad cross-section of ministries and portfolio assignments to leverage that to help advance the country and to assist the ministers, several of them who are new to operating within the government and … at that level,” the prime minister said.

He promised to continue serving in the interest of the people and to promote good governance and democracy.
