BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MORE than two months after her conviction of drug-related offences, Ellia Jeffers of Lockart Street, Basseterre was granted bail pending the hearing of her appeal.

Jeffers appeared before Her Honour Josephine Mallelieu-Webe in late November last year and was convicted and ordered to pay a fine of $65,000 forthwith or serve a default sentence of four year’s imprisonment.

SKNVibes understands that since the passing of that judgment, Jeffers was at Her Majesty’s Prison and within the past week she was seen on the streets of Basseterre.

A police press release confirmed rumours, which this publication caught wind of, suggesting that the young woman was granted bail and that is had something to do with an appeal that was filed on her behalf.

The release, issued today (Jan. 29), informed that Jeffers was indeed granted bail “pending her appeal hearing”.

Jeffers was originally taken into custody in September 2014 when, according to police reports, she reportedly entered St. Kitts and Nevis via the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport with a quantity of cocaine on her person.

She was arrested, charged, taken to court and convicted of “possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to supply, importation of cocaine, and making a false declaration to Customs Officers”, the press release indicated.
