Passenger bus knocks down pedestrian

By: Terresa McCall

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE driver of a passenger bus was taken into police custody last evening (Jan. 31) after the vehicle which he operated struck a passenger who was reportedly attempting to get from one side of the road to the next.

The incident occurred in Mansion Village along the Island’s Main Road and as explained by Commander of District ‘B’ Superintendent Cromwell Henry, it involved motor omni bus H6119 – which is owned and was being driven by Glenville Rogers Jr. of Sandy Point and a pedestrian, who has been identified as Arthurlyn ‘Henry’ Rogers of Tabernacle.

Concerning the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Superintendent informed that, according to investigations, Rogers was making an attempt to get from the sea side of the road to the mountain side of the road with H6119 travelling towards Tabernacle’s direction.

He explained that while Rogers was making his way across the road, he began running back to the side from which he originally came and was struck by H6119 in the process.

Superintendent Henry informed that the driver of H6119 was taken into police custody and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident as well as the bus driver’s blood alcohol level are being made.
