BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (SKNLPCU) – A call for young men of St. Kitts and Nevis to bring the prevalence of gun violence to an end.
The call has come from St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party caretaker Dr. Terrance Drew.
“I encourage our young men to choose peace over violence. Negativity only hurts you, your family, our community and by extension, our nation on a whole,” said Dr. Drew in a statement on his Facebook page on Sunday.
The statement was issued shortly after the discovery of the decomposing body of Devon Percival of St. Peter’s. Bringing the number of murders in January to six, a record in the Federation’s history.
“Another young life has been lost through violence. These devastating words should not become part of our daily conversations. The recent upsurge in criminal activity breaks my heart,” said Dr. Drew, who added that the record six murders in January is “a part of that dark cloud hangs over Constituency Eight with one of the latest incident being in my home village of St. Peters.”
Dr. Drew used the opportunity to extend sincere condolences to the family of the deceased, the affected families in Cayon as well as the other grieving families.
A record six murders – five last week – have been reported by police in January 2016.
