Collaboration with the community is vital, says Superintendent Henry

Superintendent Cromwell Henry, Commander of Division B in St. Kitts
By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 03, 2016 (SKNIS): Collaboration is a two way approach and is imperative, said Superintendent Cromwell Henry, Commander of Division B, while speaking on the Government’s weekly radio and television programme “Working for You” on Wednesday, February 03.

In responding to a question posed in relation to the issues related to Division B, Superintendent Henry noted that they are no different to the rest of the island, as they have their share of murders, break-ins and robberies. However, he noted with the assistance from the general public much can and is being done to combat the said issues.

“The community is a stakeholder in all that is happening,” he said. “They have to collaborate with us as much as we have to collaborate with them and that collaboration would give us the intelligence, the information that we need that would fuel our intelligence-led operations, which is a very important part of our plan in dealing with the problems.”

Superintendent Henry explained that through collaboration with the communities they were able to solve a number of issues.

“This has borne much fruit for us in Division B, as a result of that intelligence that we were able to get from the community,” he said. “For example, in Sandy Point recently, we were able to execute warrants on particular premises and we were able to solve several break-ins. We found drugs, stolen goods and several persons were on the premises when they were questioned.”

He explained that through these searches the victims of the crimes were fortunate enough to positively identify the items. He added that the police were able to solve a break-in ring in the Sandy Point community as a result of collaboration. The superintendent stated that Division B has had similar successes in other communities such as Old Road, Cayon, Mansion, Tabernacle, Saddlers and Molineux, just to name a few.

The commander of Division B said that the operations were joint operations, therefore the collaboration extended beyond communities and the police to customs, defense force and other units within the police force.
