BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MINISTER of Housing the Hon. Eugene A. Hamilton has indicated that work on the establishment of a National Housing Policy has begun, as was mandated weeks ago by Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris.

Appearing on the Government’s radio programme ‘Working for You’ on January 26, Harris indicated that he had charged Minister Hamilton with the task of proposing a housing policy/strategy.

He said that the policy could be launched as early as one month from the commencement date and noted that it would be a comprehensive policy, which would incentivize individuals to construct their own homes rather than relying so heavily on the National Housing Cooperation.

SKNVibes spoke with Hamilton today (Feb. 9) and he explained that a committee has already been formed and work on a proposed National Housing Policy has begun.

An obviously guarded Hamilton provided very little information about the committee and its membership, stating that he preferred the members perform their duties unrestricted and undisturbed.

Hamilton informed that the committee had met sometime last week but he is not in a position to give any information about the policy.

The Housing Minister pointed out that the group is responsible for the contents of that meeting and he would reserve his comments until the members would have completed their task.

He however stated that the committee should complete its task by early March.
