BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A joint operation by members of the Special Services Unit and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, as well as a K-9 team from the Customs and Excise Department, this morning (Feb. 13) resulted in the discovery and seizure of a quantity of marijuana and the arrest of a male McKnight resident.

According to a police communiqué, the operation, which began before dawn, was specific to known locations in Salt Pond Alley, Malone Avenue, Cunningham Street and Upper and Lower Shaw Avenues.

It stated that 15 abandoned properties were searched during the operation but no illegal items were found. However, on searching the Malone Avenue property of Crispin Crossley, the lawmen had found a quantity of marijuana.

Both the find and Crispin were taken into police custody and he was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

In addition to the search operation, foot patrols were also conducted in the McKnight area.

The communiqué also stated that this morning’s operation was one of many carried out in recent days on both St. Kitts and Nevis as the Police Force continues its efforts to rid the communities of illegal drugs, firearms, ammunition and other instruments that could be used in the commission of crimes.

Commenting on the operation, newly-appointed Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley, on behalf of the High Command, was high in praise of the officers for their vigilance over the past weeks.

“Ongoing initiatives like these that have an increased police presence in our communities result in less criminal activity and a reduction in the fear of crime…What is critical to the success, however, is a partnership with our citizens and our communities.

He also took the opportunity to urge members of the public to continue to support the police in their efforts to make “our communities safer”.
