Theme of “Excellence is a Lifestyle” the Focus of 25th Awards Celebration

Virgin Gorda, BVI (February 27, 2016) – Bitter End Yacht Club rolled out the red carpet for honored guests, visiting dignitaries, and lauded staff members at its 25th Annual Service Star Awards Banquet, recognizing exemplary employee service in 2015. In her opening remarks, BEYC’s Director of Human Resources, Delores Creque, proclaimed the theme of the evening: “Excellence is a Lifestyle.”

The Service Star initiative is a year-long employee recognition program that honors the top performing staff members, both “front of the house,” and “heart of the house.” The ownership and management of the Bitter End Yacht Club understands that each staff member is critical to the overall guest experience. “Our staff is by far our greatest asset,” said Director of Operations Matthew Siegel. “They are the ones who ensure that each guest that visits Bitter End  enjoys a magical experience,” he added.

Among all the wonderful monthly winners, two stood out. In his role as Auditor in the accounting department, Samuel “Reliable” Jones has developed into a jack of all trades since starting at Bitter End in 1991. And his motto is “the dictionary is the only place where success comes before work!” In his off hours, “Jones” (as he is affectionately known) can be found swimming and windsurfing circles around the watersports team. And when someone needs help with an IT problem, Jones is the go-to guy.

Taking the SSA for “Front of the House,” Travis Dick, coined the “all-around-er” by his coworkers, has been working in the retail/shops department since 2010. And in the five years he’s been on the team, he has showcased ever-expanding skills and knowledge. Plus, when he’s not in retail, he’s assisting with the engineering department. And according to Delores Creque, “if he’s having a bad day, it’s not easy to tell, as he always has a smile on his face.”  Taking place on the eve of its 41st anniversary season under Hokin Family ownership, BEYC’s Service Star Dinner also featured a fun video presentation of management team and the whole crew dancing to Pharrell’s Happy! In his comments, Richard Hokin, Managing Director, referred to BEYC’s long relationship with the Virgin Gorda community, and equally long tradition of staff recognition, and he gave high praise to staff and management alike. Dinner and dancing topped off the evening, with the Premier of the British Virgin Islands, the Honourable Dr. Orlando Smith, OBE, and the Honourable Hubert O’Neal (Representative for the 9th District) in attendance.
