Press Release

March 11th, 2016 -- Victoria Dean, British High Commissioner to Barbados, today took delivery of a new fleet car, a Nissan E-NV 200 Combi supplied by local firm Megapower.

This electric powered vehicle can be easily configured to carry cargo or passengers and operational costs are estimated at 0.08 cents per kilometre.

Charging points have been set up at the High Commission’s offices and the official Residence and its range of around 100 miles per charge will fit in with regular working patterns.

Victoria Dean said: “We at the High Commission are delighted to play a part in reducing carbon emissions in Barbados and to contributing to this country’s climate change targets.  We are proud that Nissan UK are global leaders in electric vehicle technology and suppliers of the LEAF vehicles sold by Megapower in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.”

Joanna Edghill of Megapower said: “The British HC has demonstrated fantastic support for the transition to zero emission driving in Barbados, from funding Barbados’ first electric vehicle public awareness event in 2013 to now purchasing the country's first 7-seater electric van. This is an organisation strongly committed to emission control and we are delighted to work with them.”
