Controversial ICCS students not allowed to participate at TDC Meet

The Immaculate Conception Catholic School

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE two students at the center of a firestorm between the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAAA) and the Immaculate Conception Catholic School (ICCS) over their participation at TDC Interschool Championship, will not be competing this weekend.

SKNVibes Sports received word late last evening (Mar.16) indicating that the two students, who the school representatives are refusing to name, are out of the High School Meet due to their eligibility.

Just recently school representative Paul Orchard told SKNVibes Sports that Meet officials were not allowing the children to participate due to the class they are in currently.

The two male students are currently in Grade Six of the primary department of the learning institution.

“After they were registered, they said that they were not in a high school and as such they were disqualified,” Orchard said.

President of the SKNAAA, Glen Jeffers did confirm during a recent interview that the children were ineligible to participate due to them being in a primary institution and not secondary.

But Paul explained to SKNVibes yesterday that before official word of their non-participation came through, he was concerned that a late decision would affect the students’ though process going into the Meet.

He informed that the students performed well at last weekend’s RAM’s Primary School Championship at the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium.

The controversy had seen the involvement of several prominent local attorneys to resolve the issue.
