BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - SPRINTERS Kim Collins and Antoine Adams will be representing the twin-island Federation at the World Indoor Championships this evening (Mar. 18) in Eugene, Oregon.
Collins, the local legendary athlete and former indoor silver medallist over 60 meters, will be the first of the two St. Kitts and Nevis representatives to hit the track when he competes in Heat One of the competition at 5:20 p.m. local time.
He would be followed by Adams in the seventh and final Heat of the first round at approximately 5:56 p.m.
Adams will be running out of lane one in a heat that will comprise two other Caribbean athletes - Trinidad and Tobago’s Rondel Sorrillo and Guyanese Adam Harris.
The 39-year-old Collins will be fancying his chances for a gold medal in what most sports enthusiasts expect to be his final World Indoor Championships, since he enters the competition with a seasons best of 6.51 seconds, the second fastest time for the season - only eclipsed by Jamaica’s sprint sensation Asafa Powell.
The Jamaican, who enters the competition with a time of 6.49 seconds, will be running out of lane seven in Heat Five
The Semi-Finals and Finals will also be ran later this evening.
