BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Government of St. Kitts and Nevis will be hosts to a large number of international and regional Diplomats in celebration of the annual Diplomatic Week.

The Week, which runs from April 3 to 8, is being celebrated under the theme ‘Forging new partnerships and strengthening networks for economic growth and development’.

According to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kaye Bass, the Diplomatic Week would be used to forge new relationships while consolidating on those that already exist, both regionally and internationally.

A guest on the Government’s weekly radio programme ‘Working for You’ yesterday (Mar. 30), Bass explained that the Government believes the week would not only be used as a relationship builder but also one that would assist in developing new partners in maintaining “economic growth and assisting our sustainable growth and development”.

Additionally, Bass said: “We believe that Diplomatic Week will offer the opportunity for our Heads of Mission to come to the Capitalise, liaise with those working here in the Ministry at Capital but also interact with their counterparts here in the region.”

The PS further revealed that Heads of Diplomatic Missions from Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, the Philippines, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, United States of America along with the Resident Ambassadors from Cuba, Brazil, Venezuela and the Republic of China on Taiwan would all be attending events the Ministry has planned for the Week.

One activity planned is a meeting amongst all Heads where they will discuss the common challenges they face with the hope of developing solutions to combating those difficulties, PS Bass noted.

She indicated that the Federation’s Heads of Mission would also return for the meeting, pointing out that they had gained insightful information on the CBI programme and other international revenue-generating programmes.
