SKNABA Tips off 2016 Season with Bigger, Better and More Exciting Opening Night

By: SKNABA, Press Release

SKNAA, April 4th, 2016 -- The 2016 Bigger, Better and More Exciting St.Kitts-Nevis Basketball Asociation National League tipped off with a BIG Bang on Sunday April 3rd with the much anticipated Grand Official Opening.

The League Opened with a very impressive March Pass which featured some 20 plus teams/clubs, Opening Ceremony and two spectacularly Exciting Opening Night Games.

The Opening Day activity began with a procession of teams into basketball city followed by an inspection of the Teams by the Ag Prime Minister and Minister of Sports Hon. Shawn K. Richards, the President of the SKNOC Alphonso Bridgewater and Mrs Shirna Pemberton Marketing Manager of the Gold Sponsors of the Tournament The SKN National Bank Group of Companies.

The atmosphere was exciting and colourful as many of the teams boasted brand new uniforms. The assembly of teams and spectators were addressed by the SKNABA Vice President Emmelita Warner-Paul who Chaired the afternoon’s ceremony and Secretary-General  Wallis Wilkin who gave the Vote of Thanks.

Ag Prime Minister and Minister of Sports the Hon. Shawn K. Richards Officially declared the league opened . The Minister of Sports’ presentation was easily the highlight of the afternoon’s activity as much to the delight of the teams and players in attendace he announced that the dream of an Indoor Facility will soon be a reality as his government and Ministry has given the project top priority and plans are already in motion to roll out the project sooner rather than later.

President of the NOC Alphonso Bridgewater ddressed the ceremony and admonished teams and players to do their part to promote the game and treat the SKNABA Basketball brand with enthusiasm and respect. He indicated that every member club and team should seek to do all that they can to promote the association and seek to find solutions to problems rather than  finding problems for solutions.

There were two exciting season openers played on the Opening Night. In the opening match-up the newest team in the league the Sandy Point PRIDE got the best of their hometown rivals the SANDY Point Falcons. The match was a veryu exciting affair which ended PRIDE 86, Falcons 75..

In the Marquis Match-Up of the evening the reigning Champions St.Pauls Tuff Knots got the better of the RAMS Hitters in another exciting encounter . Tuff Knots led for the entire game and at one point were up by some 20 plus points. However in typical style Hitters got back into the game and came within 2 points later in the 4th Quarter. However the dynamic brother duo of Nosharn and Noren Maynard along with point guard Clayton Powell was simply too much for the Hitters to handle . The game ended with a 76-65 victory for the Tuff Knots.

Games continue throughout the week. See Upcoming games below:
