BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Permanent Representative for St. Kitts and Nevis to the Organization of American States (OAS), Dr. Emerson W. Hull PhD, is of the view that with the many obstacles thrown in the Federation’s path, the political leaders should look at Mexico as their trading partner.

This statement, among others, comes at a time when the Mexican economy has done extraordinary well, Dr. Hull said on Monday (Apr.4) at a press conference held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort to start Diplomatic Week in the Federation.

Hull explained that a study he conducted and presented at the Caribbean Association of Bankers Conference held in the Federation in November showed that if St. Kitts and Nevis is to expand its trade leverage, the Latin American giant should be the country for consideration.

“It also provides a basis for determining which of the countries would be most important for us as we plan to expand our reach. In terms of that, Mexico is very, very important to us. Quite a few people do not think that is the case, but Mexico has done extraordinary well; the economy there has done quite well.

“It is about the eighth largest economy in the world and that to me is certainly a good candidate as we look forward beyond the obstacles that have been thrown in our path with respect to corresponding banking and others.”

Mexico, with a population of 125.39 million and a Gross Domestic Product of US$1.24 Trillion, would be a good trading partner for the Federation, Dr. Hull advised.

“As we look towards other outlets and possibilities, Mexico should certainly be included. The study that I did actually provides a summary basis to making that determination," he added. noted.
