OUALIE BEACH, Nevis, April  7, 2016 -- The second Nevis Blues Festival  scheduled to be held on April 14,15 and 16 will be a thrilling program of soul, funk and blues rock .

Fans will dance and listen to the music of local, regional and international artists on the beach at Oualie Bay.  Hotelier and co-founder Nevis Blues Festival,  John Yearwood, says the Nevis Ministry of Tourism has thrown its weight behind the Nevis Blues Festival.

“What is so refreshing about the event is that the Ministry of Tourism has fully  embraced the event.  They are not only involved in the organizing of the event but also in the promotion of the event.  They are also helping in financing of the event.  They are embracing the Blues Festival as one of the important events on the island of Nevis,” John Yearwood said.

The annual event has received publicity since the previous festival held last year: “The word is spreading.  We did a 57 minutes video documentary and it has been viewed in various parts of the world.”.

“Most people associate the Caribbean with socca, reggae and calypso.,” Yearwood said and added that there were groups of people who appreciate other forms of music.

“One of the reasons we have decided to hold the festival in mid of April is to extend the tourism season.  The tourism season is usually busy from December to the end of March. There is a bubble in Easter. The festival will help us extend the season  with an extra ten day” he said..

The Blues Festival boosts the government revenue.  Yearwood explained: “It boosts the government revenue because when blues fans  come to the island hotel rooms, restaurants, car rentals are all patronized.

Among the artists listed to perform is Ian Siegal, eight-times British Blues award winner, three-times European Blues award winner, three-times BMA nominee and two-times Mojo Blues album of the year. Oh, and ten album releases. Need we say more?

Kirk Fletcher of Choice for everyone from The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Mannish Boys, to Cyndi Lauper and Italian megastar Eros Ramazzotti, Kirk has also recorded several albums of his own that are well worth exploring for their funky grooves and hot guitar riffs.

Simon Mcbridge regarded as the natural heir to the late Gary Moore, Belfast-born Simon has been compared to the leading lights of guitar-focused blues & rock “right up there with Al Di Meola, Carlos Santana, Joe Bonamassa and others” Music News, Nashville.

Denise Gordon, a former member of Black Voices, the UK’s hugely successful A Capella ensemble, Denise has performed for the Queen and the late Pope John Paul II. Her parents are from Nevis and their love of Gospel shaped her musical destiny.

The Rhythm Chiefs who are the  leading lights on the Americana & blues scene in Holland, these guys have been playing together since they were eleven years old and it shows! A tighter band you would be hard pressed to find. Guitarist Dusty Ciggaar ranks among the best.

Denny Ilett a much accomplished multi-instrumentalist, band-leader and music arranger from the UK who learnt his trade in New Orleans. Denny’s talents span jazz, blues, big band and gospel.

Also to be featured is Northsyde the powerful combination of Janis Joplin-inspired Lorna Fothergill and husband/guitarist Jules Fothergill, they rank among the UK’s finest blues-rock outfits.
