BASSETERRE (21st April, 2016): Viking Cruises has announced that the Viking Star will visit St. Kitts for the very first time in the 2016-17 cruise season.
Executives from the Viking Star made the commitment to the Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce, The Hon. Lindsay Grant, who led a high-level tourism delegation to the cruise line headquarters in Basil, Switzerland.
“This is indeed exciting news for the destination as the Viking Star will make a total of 13 visits to St. Kitts,” Minister Grant said. “And because the passengers of this ship are of a high income, the destination will benefit due to an increase in spend in the cruise sector.”
The St. Kitts delegation also included the Minister of Public Infrastructure, Post, Urban Development and Transport, The Hon. Ian Liburd; Chief Executive of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Racquel Brown; Chief Executive of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Port Authority, Denzil James; Owner of the St. Kitts Scenic Railway, Steve Hites and Executive Director of Delislie Walwyn, Clayton Perkins.
Director of Land Operations for Viking Cruises, Cinthya Pavan, said they were excited and pleased to finally commit to coming to St. Kitts.
“We are excited and pleased to come to St. Kitts. Our guests will eat what the locals eat, touch what locals touch and see what locals see," Pavan said.
The St. Kitts team also met with, Matt Grimes, Executive Director of Viking Cruises; Nicolai Skyland, Port Operations Manager and Lia Da Silva, Manger Land Operations.
The Viking Star has a maximum capacity of 930 passengers, fitted with cabins that all have balconies. The high-end ship features an infinity pool, a wrap-around promenade deck, and giant windows and skylights that let light stream into the airy interior.
Inside, the ship is sprinkled with Scandinavian decor, including regional artwork and textiles, as well as pelts, star constellations, and ancient Viking maps in the two-deck Explorers’ Lounge. The LivNordic spa features a hydrotherapy pool and a Snow Grotto, a cooling snow room intended for quick refreshing visits in between the sauna, hot tub, and therapeutic showers.
