Footballers banned for match brawl

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) has sent a very strong message to clubs and their players affiliated to the governing body that indiscipline would not be tolerated, and that those who breach the laws of the game would be severely punished.

Earlier this week, several players had found that the Association does not intend to condone indiscipline, as its Disciplinary Committee had imposed punishments on them for their involved in a brawl during a game in the FA Cup finals earlier this month between SOL Island Auto Conaree and Hobson Enterprise Garden Hotspurs at the Warner Park Football Stadium.

The latter walked away victors after edging Conaree 1-nil.

In a statement issued on Monday (Apr. 25), the Disciplinary Committee said it views the incident as a serious infringement of the rules and conditions governing football in the Federation, and one which brought the game into disrepute.

Against that backdrop, the SKNFA took the players and officials from both teams before the Disciplinary Committee after the match report was submitted by the “match Referee”, along with video footage and testimonies of players, the Committee reported.

Conaree’s Wazim Howe was suspended for the remainder of the season and will sit out the Final Four in which his team is likely to qualify. His teammates, Glenroy Samuel and Mudassa Howe, both received a five-game suspension, two of which are under conditions.

Like Wazim Howe, Shaquille Adams of Garden Hotspurs has been suspended for the remainder of the season and will be absent from the Final Four should his team qualify.

Javier Gaiton of Hotspurs received a five-game suspension with conditions, while Ticoy Huggins and Arturo Diaz also received deferred five-game suspensions under conditions.

Hotspurs and Conaree Football Clubs were both fined EC$3,500 which, according to the Committee, has to be paid before the start of the new season.

Samuel, Howe and Adams were ordered to attend conflict/dispute resolution sessions prior to the start of the 2016 – 2017 FA League.

According to the SKNFA’s statement, “The Disciplinary Committee sanctions also demand that the two clubs publicly condemn the conduct of their respective players, as well as spectators who got involved, bringing the game into disrepute. The sanctioned teams must also engage in a reconciliation display at a time to be determined by the SKNFA.”

The SKNFA affirmed that the Disciplinary Committee’s hearings and processes were conducted in accordance with the SKNFA Constitution and Regulations, and were also done in accordance with the Articles of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

Currently, there are about four matches remaining in the league, at the end of which will see the top four teams qualifying for the Final Four knockout competition.
