Skirmishes force premature end to Labour Day Jam

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SEVERAL minor skirmishes that took place during the jam session which formed part of yesterday’s (May 2) Labour Day March forced the authorities to bring that portion of the event to a premature end.

As tradition would have it, a band would be located at the back of the Labour Day March and many tend to seize the opportunity to enjoy themselves before returning to their jobs the following day.

The Nu Vybes Band International was providing such entertainment this year and it had a large following.

District A’s Commander Superintendent Cromwell Henry told SKNVibes that the march was peaceful and virtually uninterrupted. However, along the route of the event, several skirmishes took place within the band which led to more than 10 individuals being taken into police custody.

SKNVibes understands that the jam was stopped just a short distance before the band could reach to the point of culmination.

Superintendent Henry explained that while no charges were preferred against those individuals, they were detained by the police until the activities concluded.

“There were no major incidences so the security operation would consider that the event was a success.”
