CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – POLICE on Nevis have solved a number of cold cases relating to housebreaking and larceny and one man is in custody charged for allegedly committing the offences.
Charged with housebreaking and larceny is Allan Broadbelt of Bath Village, allegedly committed between July 19 and 20, 2014.
According to a police communiqué, Broadbelt’s arrest and subsequent charges resulted from a search of his home by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force on Thursday (Apr. 28).
The intelligence-led search operation led to the find of furniture, electronics, air conditioning units, groceries, construction supplies and tools, among other items.
The communiqué noted that a number of housebreaking and larceny victims who, in the past, had reported their losses to the police, “have come forward and have identified some of the recovered items”.
It also quoted Inspector Alonzo Carty as saying: “This is the first of what is likely to be many charges against Broadbelt.”
Carty also stated that among the items discovered in Broadbelt’s home, a number of them are associated to several housebreakings and larcenies committed on the island.
Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
Over the years, many citizens and residents of Nevis have been plagued by bandits breaking into their homes and robbing them of their hard-earned cash and other valuables. However, since the introduction of the Police High Command's Six-Point Plan, there has been a significant reduction of these incidents.
