Young Entrepreneurs To Receive Social Media Training

    BVI, May 3rd, 2016 -- Young entrepreneurs in the Territory will acquire skills on utilising social media to improve their businesses from a three day workshop next week.

     

    The training is organised by the Government of the Virgin Islands, through the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Caribbean Overseas Small and Medium Enterprises (COSME) Programme.

    The workshop titled “Social Media for the Future of Your Business” will be held from May 9 to 11 and is sponsored by the European Union. The Social Media workshops are designed for entrepreneurs who understand social media, have dabbled in their spare time, and have an appetite to learn and do more to grow their business’ reach.

    Government remains committed to supporting entrepreneurs by providing how to workshops that guides them on growing and improving their businesses.  Successful social media in combination with a strong business offering in the OCT regions is expected to contribute positively to the growth of these businesses leading to overall island growth in the business sector.

    This Social Media for the Future of Your Business was designed by the marketing and technology agency Electric Villages, in small casual formats ensuring the information is comprehensive and easy to implement after the participants returned to their own offices. It will be facilitated by Ms. Renae Quinton.

    With 41.9 per cent of the Caribbean population engaged on the Internet, BVI businesses have the opportunity to take advantage of this larger economic opportunity by expanding their reach with effective social media performance.

    The COSME programme specialises in the development of the small and medium enterprises in the 12 Overseas Countries and Territories, and was launched on April 1, 2014 on Tortola. The overall objective of the programme is to contribute to the sustainable and climate resilient economic diversification and prosperity of Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories by improving the competitiveness of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in the participating Territories.
