St. Kitts Gets Spiced Up at Spice Fest 2016

    Annual Three-Night Event Features Celebrity Chefs, Food, Art and More 

     

    Basseterre, St. Kitts (May 3, 2016) - Taking place from Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1, 2016, Spice Mill restaurant's annual Spice Fest was a huge success this year, featuring celebrity chefs, belly dancing, food, art and more.

    A highlight of the event was the participation of two celebrity chefs, Chef Dan Churchill of Australia and Pastry Chef Jose Rojas of Big Booty Bread Co. in New York. On Saturday evening, the two chefs worked in the kitchen alongside Spice Mill's culinary team to prepare a special Festive Dinner for attendees. Featuring a hot and cold appetizer, entrée, main dish and dessert, the menu highlighted local cuisine as well as the celebrity chefs' own specialties. After the meal, the chefs were able to enjoy the festivities and get a taste of St. Kitts' local culture.

    Chef Dan Churchill called the event "super-energetic" and commented about St. Kitts that, "the people are seriously lovely." Meanwhile, Chef Jose Rojas said, "Thank you, St. Kitts, for having us here tonight. We're having a great time at Spice Fest and we're excited for a great weekend." Chef Dan even posted about the evening on social media, sharing a photo on his Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

    Prior to the Festive Dinner was Open Market day from 1pm - 6pm with free admission all day. Activities included live local entertainment, a fine local art exhibit and sale, fresh organic produce for sale, regional cuisine, fresh fruit cocktails, demos and workshops and even a Lion Fish competition.

    Friday was themed "Arabian Night" and featured authentic Arabian fare as well as belly dancing from N9 Dancers of Trinidad and music by DJ Legal from 6pm through midnight. Specialty Cocktails by Mixologist Teddy Collins from Miami, Florida, were an additional treat.

    On Sunday, the final day of Spice Fest blossomed into a beach party with music from the Greenhouse Band and dance and juggling acts by N9 Dance Company. Spice Mill featured it's a Sunday buffet and fresh fruit cocktails as well as a raffle drawing.
     
    Carib Brewery was a sponsor of Spice Fest; Carib beer was served over the course of the entire weekend. Both locals and visitors alike enjoyed the festivities.
