One hospitalised in Canada Estate traffic accident

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Frigate Bay resident was yesterday afternoon (May 5) treated at the JNF General Hospital and subsequently discharged while a Sandy Point man is warded there following a traffic accident that occurred on the island’s main road at Canada Estate in the vicinity of Equipment Rental.

Speaking with Corporal Simeon Liburd of the Traffic Department, SKNVibes was told that the accident had involved motorcar PA 7265, owned and driven by Larry Carey of Sandy Point, and motor jeep PA 9881, owned and driven by Andrew Redford of Frigate Bay.

“Circumstances are that PAA 7265 was travelling from Keys Village towards Basseterre and the motor jeep was travelling in the opposite direction when the motorcar, which was travelling behind a bus, attempted to overtake it and collided with the motor jeep,” Liburd explained.

He stated that both vehicles were extensively damaged and both drivers were transported to the hospital, where Carey remains warded while Redford was treated for minor injuries and discharged.

Corporal Liburd also stated that investigations into the accident are ongoing.

In a message to motorists, the traffic cop said: “The Traffic Department is once again calling on motorists to continue to be vigilant and to be courteous to other road users, because too often we have people who are overtaking and just cutting across other persons on the streets. They therefore need to extend more courtesy, practice caution and be conscious of others road users when driving.”

He is also appealing to motorists to observe the speed limits and all traffic signs.
