Latin Festival Village in the making

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the seventh annual Latin Festival fast approaching, organisers have expressed hope of having a Latin Festival Village where most of the activities for the celebrations would be held.

This was recently revealed by the Festival Committee’s Executive Director Sharon Stevens at a luncheon held for sponsors of the week of activities.

What is now a Latin Festival began with a Latin Fiesta; a one-day party which took place at Spice Mill and had remained in that form for two years.

On the third year however, it grew in support and duration to a week of activities created to showcase all facets of the Latin culture.

Only last year the venue was changed from the beach just behind the St. Kitts Marriott to Port Zante and, as Stevens explained, the reason for that change was two-fold.

“Last year we made a huge change in our venue, where we thought it was a brilliant idea not only for logistics but the ability to extend the fiesta into the wee hours of the morning.”

While not speaking to prospective venues for the Village, Stevens addressed some of the advantages of having such a space.

“This year we are hoping to have a Latin Fiesta Village, where most of the events for the week of activities would be held at one venue. This would give our partners a better chance of showcasing their products for the entire week. This would also give persons who have never experienced Latin Festival a chance to visit the grounds and get a feel of what the Sunday event is like.”

This year’s Latin Festival is scheduled to take place from October 17 and is expected to include a movie night, art displays, dance lessons and parties, with the grand finale taking place on Sunday (Oct. 26).

The Committee has advised that individuals visit the Festival’s Facebook page over the upcoming weeks for the release of the week of activities.
