Non-Profit Association (S.P.B.S) Donates State of the Art Intercom System to the C.E.M. S. S

By: EMU, Press Release

(EMU) – St. Kitts, May 17, 2016 -- The United States based alumni association, Sandy Point Benevolent Society (S.P.B.S), of the Charles E. Mills Secondary School (C.E.M.S.S), has once again demonstrated its unwavering support to educational institutions within the Federation.  The Charles E. Mills Secondary School previously known as the Sandy Point High School is now the recipient of a new state of the art intercom system.

The most recent beneficiaries of the group’s generosity sought to express their gratitude in a multitude of ways by extending tributes in song, dance and poetry at the handing over ceremony on Friday 13th May.

Principal, Mrs. Carla Diamond, while conveying her appreciation as well as that of the staff and students of the C.E.M.S.S, announced that, “Without hesitation, the S.P.B.S Association rose to the occasion and put mechanisms in place to ensure the safety and security of staff and students alike, when they purchased, paid to ship and install an intercom system for the school.”  She explained that the school reached out to S.B.P.S when its safety drills revealed that the school possessed no method of communicating a message to its entire staff and students in cases of emergency.  She lauded this as a, “significant contribution to the education system and is by no means an isolated incident (as the organization had done similarly in the past).”

Whilst the Minister of Education and Youth, Hon. Shawn Richards was not in attendance due to other engagements overseas, his sentiments were most certainly expressed.  “The main purpose of this gift is to benefit all of you,” Mr. Vernon Connor, Special Advisor to the Minister of Youth, expressed.  He urged the students not to take the gesture for granted and the staff to take special care of the system.

While speaking on the patronage and service which the group has shown to the school over the years, he added, “We are grateful today that these noble men and women have not just gone forward without looking back.”

Speaking on behalf of the group President, Dr. Stewart Williams, shared with the audience that working together and delivering are just two objectives of the Association.  “Collaborating with the High School and the community at large, we listen well, and what we bring to you are results,” he highlighted.

The Association became a non-profit U.S corporation in 2007 after making several judicious contributions over the past two decades to the Sandy Point Community.  In 2013 the association initiated its annual scholarship, which provides financial funding to a disadvantaged past student from the C.E.M.S.S, studying anywhere in the world.

Valuing over twenty thousand US dollars, the intercom system is just the latest example of the generosity of this Association.  The Sandy Point Benevolent Society has, in the past, made significant contributions to learning institutions such as Charles E. Mills Secondary School, Sandy Point Primary School, Newton Ground Primary School and St. Paul’s Primary School.
