All roads lead to Rio for White Sands 2016

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FRIDAY evening (May 20) saw the commencement of a series of events which would clearly pave the path that leads to the anticipated White Sands Rio event scheduled for June 26, 2016.

Individuals entering the event were greeted by a woman bedecked in a Brazilian carnival-themed costume and were presented with a Caipirinha cocktail, said to be the signature cocktail of Brazil, after which this year’s White Sands event is themed.

The Carambola Beach Club has been hosting the White Sands event for the past four years and on this occasion the Rio-inspired party promises to be fun, entertaining and relaxing all at the same time.

The event is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and would run into the late hours of the evening. However, the White Sands Rio experience does not begin there but incorporates a list of activities ranging from Happy Hour Fridays (every Friday until the event) to a White Sands road to Rio fitness party on June 2 at Port Zante.

The Carambola Beach Club’s Director and Member of the White Sands Rio Committee, Daislyn Sharpe, gave a sneak peek into what the event would bring and, if only for the entertainment alone, individuals have indicated their excitement with the offerings.

Not only will it feature St. Kitts’ very own Nicha B and Dejour, but also Mr. Vegas of Jamaica, Barbados’Soca Queen Alison Hinds, J Lava of Dei Musicale of Trinidad, Chromatic Sound out of Jamaica and Jillionaire of Major Laser. The event will be hosted by Jamaica’s Ms. Kitty.

A highlight of the launch was the revealing of the six beautiful and elegant young ladies who would be vying for this year’s Miss White Sands Swimsuit title. They are Olivia Walters, Anesha Joseph, Suzana Rocha, Yulayki Santiago, Michema Duggins and Marsha Phillip.

The launch of the girls, a brief performance by Dejour and a cultural presentation that featured Brazilian drumming were more than enough to whet the appetite of those in attendance.

Regular tickets for White Sands Rio are on sale for EC$50 or EC$60 at the gate. However, for those who would prefer to enjoy additional perks of the event, the White Sands Reserved Area - which offers reserved seats and dedicated cash food and beverage service bars - can be enjoyed for $100. And the Copacabana VIP Lounge tickets are available at EC$350 or US$130.

Known as the official post-Music Festival party, White Sands  Rio, as has been done in the past, will be providing VIP service for each night of the Music Festival which runs from June 23-25.

The attractive offerings for the evenings include a Roti Station and Soca-themed menu for the Thursday evening, a Jerk Station and Reggae-themed menu for the Friday evening and an Oyster Bar and International-themed menu for the Sunday evening. Other perks include a Fragrance Bar featuring Tommy Bahamas’ St. Kitts, Park and Ride Shuttle from Port Zante, Fast-track VIP Entrance to the event, In-lounge Entertainment between acts, a Sushi Station and Dedicated Restroom facilities.

Prospective patrons are asked to monitor the White Sands Facebook page for timely updates on White Sands Rio and events.
